How to Start a Happiness Journal

A happiness journal functions, to journals where you document your thoughts and emotions. However it differs in that you exclusively record the things that bring you joy. The purpose of this journal is to focus on experiences, happy thoughts and moments that have brought you happiness.

Here are a few suggestions, for getting started with your happiness journal.

Choose a Journal That Brings You Joy and Peace

Of rummaging through your current notebooks and journals to find an unused one it’s important, for a happiness journal to evoke the emotions you desire. When you come across the journal you should feel a sense of optimism, joy, contentment and tranquility. You’ll instinctively know when you’ve found it because it will bring a smile to your face and allow you to envision yourself using it. Remember that everyones preference is unique so no two individuals will have the experience or desire the same type of journal.

Keep the Journal Positive and Uplifting

Whenever you write in your journal make sure to focus on positivity, gratitude and optimism. Unlike journals where you may jot down your feelings emphasizing difficulties or struggles you may be facing a happiness journal should always maintain a tone. If theres something challenging that you want to write about try adding a perspective or expressing gratitude after acknowledging it. By practicing this approach you’ll naturally cultivate positivity and optimism in your life. It truly aids in developing an appreciation, for the life you have.

Express Gratitude Every Day

A good way to start each journal entry in your happiness journal is with gratitude. Write a short list of things you are grateful for that day before writing about what is making you happy. These can be small or big things, from a favor someone did for you to enjoy your morning cup of coffee. Writing out gratitude instantly puts you in a good, appreciative mood, and can help you get into the right mindset for your happiness journal.

Find Happiness and Inspiration

During the days there are always silver linings to be found. No matter how challenging the day may have felt even if it appeared as though “nothing good happened ” it’s important to remember that everyone perceives experiences differently. What may have seemed negative at glance could actually hold an aspect. This is what you should prioritize when recording in your happiness journal.
