How to Find the Best Workout App For You

March 4, 2022

When it comes to fitness apps, there is something for everyone. Anything you can think you want in a fitness app, you will probably find. But which one should you go with?

Here are some ways to determine what fitness apps might work best for you.

Fitness Trainer You Already Love

A super easy way to start looking for fitness apps is to think about a trainer or fitness influencer you already like to watch. Many influential fitness professionals have their own workout apps now, or work with other apps to get their workouts on them.

For example, the following influencers have fitness apps:

  • Jillian Michaels. Originally made famous from the show Biggest Loser, Jillian Michaels has an app with workouts and nutrition plans.
  • Whitney Simmons. You might know Whitney Simmons from YouTube and Instagram, where she posts her workouts and nutrition advice. She has a new app called Alive.
  • Cassey Ho. Known as Blogilates, Cassey Ho has her own Blogilates fitness app now that is very popular and highly rated.

Types of Workouts Offered

Different apps are going to offer different types of workouts, like yoga and pilates, weight training, HIIT, and many more. Many of these apps offer multiple options, while others are more about a specific type of workout.

If you know exactly what type of workouts you are looking for, that is a good place to start. You can search your app store for the type of workout, and the results will bring up workout-specific apps.

For example, if you are looking for barre workouts, the following apps are great ones to consider:

  • Xtend Barre
  • BeachBody
  • Obe Fitness

How Much Do You Want to Pay?

You can also choose apps based on how much they cost. While many of them have a small monthly fee, most of them offer a free trial so you can try it out before committing.

The SWEAT app, which includes Kayla Itsines’ popular HIIT program is $20 a month.

You can get the Asics fitness app for $9.99 a month, while the Peloton app is $12.99 a month. The Glo app is a little higher at $22.99 a month.

Specific Programs and Schedules

The last way to find a good workout app is by programs and calendars they offer. For example, if you have a Peloton treadmill or bike, you probably want to use the Peloton app. If you have an Apple watch, you can try out the Apple fitness app.

Then there are apps like Glo if you want to try out a yoga program.
